Royal LePage Hiller Realty Junior Tennis Tournament Results

The Stratford Tennis Club held the second Royal LePage Hiller Realty Junior Tennis Tournament this past weekend. The event had three age groups for boys and one group for the girls and included many first time tournament participants.
The Girls Under 16 championship final was the match of the day. Mackenzie Dumais, who won the girls event in the first tournament of this season and swept all the events last season, faced Grace Glosnek in the final. The match was highlighted by excellent technique and tactics by both players. The high level of play impressed all the spectators in attendance. The 11 year old Glosnek was able to wear down her 14 year old opponent and took the title with an 8-5 victory. It was a very impressive first singles tournament victory for Miss Glosnek whose bright tennis future is evident to all who saw her play this weekend.
The Girls consolation title went to Megan Furlong who scored an 8-4 victory over Kali Brimner in the title match.
The Boys Under 16 event was once again dominated by Jacob Wunder. Just like the first event of the season Wunder dominated in all his matches. The championship match saw Wunder down Michael Vandewiel 8 games to 3 for the title.
The Boys Under 16 consolation final saw tournament rookie Josh Smith edge Evan Fortin 8-5 for the title.
The Boys Under 14 event saw Ronan McCarroll advance to his second straight final. McCarroll had lost the first event in the final, being edged by Ethan Misener in a tie-breaker. McCarroll’s opponent in this final was Adam Montieth. Montieth, playing in his first tournament, took out Misener in the semifinals in one of the best boys matches of the day. The final saw both players excellent athleticism make for great rallies and exciting play. McCarroll prevailed taking the title with an 8-4 victory.
The Boys Under 14 consolation title went to Colin Craig who scored an 8-0 win over Thomas Purdy in the final.
The Boys Under 12 final saw a familiar match up. In the first tournament of the season Luke Heisz and Nathan Fopoussi faced off in the consolation final. This event saw both boys pick up their level of play and advance to the main draw championship match. The improved play continued into the final where both players gave it their all. Heisz took the championship , scoring an 8-3 victory.
The Boys Under 12 consolation champion is Cole Iacobellis. Iacobellis , in his first tournament, took down Bruce Munro 8-3 to claim the title.
