The Stratford Tennis League completed its regular season schedule this past week.
The early game saw Donkers Agri take on Snapd. The #1 Ladies Doubles had a split of sets as Linda Doig and Maria Donkers of Donkers took the first set 6-2 before Nicolle Crowley and Cox Wensink of Snapd returned the favour winning the second set 6-2. The #2 Ladies Doubles went to Snapd as Monica Eickmeyer and Michele Thomson scored a 7-5 6-4 victory over Erma Wernink and Nancy Chung.
The #1 Men’s Doubles first set went to Donkers as Richard Bast and John Noble took down Chris Parson and Murray Schiedel 6-4 but Parson and Schiedel rebounded in the second set winning 6-2 to give Snapd the split. Snapd took the #2 Men’s Doubles as Ryan Lay and Lanny Hoare downed Larry Shurrie and Mike Schiedel 6-4 6-2.
The #1 Mixed Doubles went to Donkers as the team of Doig and Bast edged Crowley and Parson 7-5. Donkers took the #2 Mixed Doubles as Donkers and Noble took down Wensink and Schiedel 7-6 (7 points to 4 in the tie breaker).
Eickmeyer and Lay of Snapd dominated the #3 Mixed Doubles shutting out Wernink and Shurrie 6-0. Snapd also took the #4 Mixed Doubles as Thomson and Hoare squeaked out a 7-6 (7 points to 5 in the tie breaker) victory over Chung and Schiedel.Snapd ended the night with a 8 sets to 4 victory.
The late game had Sunrise Health Services facing Auto Works. The #1 Ladies Doubles opened with Johanna Billings and Carmen Miron of Auto Works scoring a 6-4 victory, before Sandie Ennett and Naomi Lange took the second set 6-3 for Sunrise. Auto Works swept the #2 Ladies Doubles as Ginny Smith and Sandra Hofing downed Marilyn Leasa and Marilyn Holmes 6-3 6-3.
The #1 Men’s Doubles split sets with Bob Tamblyn and Paul Coates of Sunrise taking the first set 6-3 and Grant McPherson and Pat McCarroll of Auto Works scoring a 6-3 win in the second set. Sunrise swept the #2 Men’s Doubles as Luke Fischer and Jared Larder took down John Fischer and Stuart Arkett 6-4 6-4.
Billings and McPherson of Auto Works dominated the #1 Mixed Doubles scoring a 6-1 victory over Ennett and Tamblyn. Sunrise’s #2 Mixed Doubles team of Lange and Coates doubled up Miron and McCarroll 6-3 in their match up.
The #3 Mixed Doubles went to Sunrise as Leasa and Luke Fischer scored a 6-3 win over Smith and John Fischer. Sunrise continued their mixed success as Holmes and Larder took the #4 Mixed Doubles 6-1 over Hofing and Arkett.
The 7 sets to 5 sets victory for Sunrise Health Services clinched first place in the regular season standings.
The playoffs begin next week and will see rematches of this weeks games. The early game will see Sunrise face Auto Works, while the late game has Donkers Agri take on Snapd. Bill White
